Baptism

What does Baptism mean

Baptism is a symbolic ritual, an action-picture, an outward sign of an inward and spiritual grace given by God.

Baptism is a symbol of God is love for all people. It recalls the death and resurrection of Jesus, and so it is a way of expressing that a person enters into a loving relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ.

Baptism is a rite of initiation into the Christian church. It unites the person who is baptized with Jesus Christ and with the whole community of believers (not just with one congregation).

Baptism is a step on the journey of growing and developing as a person of faith. It is part of an ongoing response to the love of God in Jesus.

Who may be baptized

Baptism is available to all who wish to express their response to God and their membership in the church in this way. Baptism is also available to children brought by Christian parent(s) or guardian(s) who want to have their child grow and develop in the nurture of the Christian community. For those baptized at a young age, Confirmation offers a later opportunity for a personal affirmation of faith.

Funeral

In Life, in Death, in Life Beyond Death

The death of a loved one is a time to recall the miracle of life, to give thanks for a life lived, and to mourn our loss. It is also a time to gather together and affirm the hope that is ours by faith i that, in life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us. We are not alone.

As a Christian faith community, St. Andrew is United Church offers the ministry of funeral and memorial services, although we like to call them services of remembrance and celebration. Such a service will seek to support the bereaved with compassion and encouragement, to celebrate and give thanks for the life lived, and to lift up the resurrection promise of the Christian faith.

Please contact the church office at 705-674-0721 ex 104 to speak with the minister about funeral planning.
