Baptism

WhatAi??doesAi??BaptismAi??mean?

Baptism is a symbolic ritual, an ai???action-pictureai???ai??i??Ai??an outward sign of an inward and spiritual grace given by God.

Baptism is a symbol of Godai??i??s love for all people.Ai?? It recalls the death and resurrection of Jesus, and so itai??i??s a way of expressing that a person enters into a loving relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ.

Baptism is a rite of initiationai??i??into the Christian church.Ai?? It unites the person who is baptized with Jesus Christ and with the whole community of believers (not just with one congregation).

Baptism is a step on the journey of growing and developing as a person of faith.Ai?? It is part of an ongoing response to the love of God in Jesus.

Who may be baptized?

Baptism is available to all who wish to express their response to God and their membership in the church in this way.Ai??Baptism is also available to children brought by Christian parent(s) or guardian(s) who want to have their child grow and develop in the nurture of the Christian community.Ai?? For those baptized at a young age, Confirmation offers a later opportunity for a personal affirmation of faith.
